As a kid, I remember filling my little red Radio Flyer with my grandfather’s handcrafted birdhouses and pulling them around the neighborhood. A sign hung from the wagon, “Birdhouses: $10 each”. My brother and I would call out, “Birdhouses for sale!” and at the end of a good day, we’d take turns riding down the hill to our house in the empty wagon, pockets full of change to deliver to Papa. How things have changed!
Talented artisan William Dohman replied to my call for artists to feature on Etsy, and upon viewing his shop, I ran around the house waving my Macbook excitedly, showing my entire family the new modern birdhouse I had found.
This modern birdhouse is perfect for smaller birds and can be hung or mounted.
This birdhouse is handcrafted out of appleply. Appleply is a premium quality veneer core panel constructed from uniform laminations of solid grade 1/16″ Alder and Birch. This all hardwood core produces a strong, lightweight panel with a minimum number of voids and a naturally attractive edge.
The birdhouse measures approx. 6″ x 7″ x 12″. The wood is coated with polycrylic and paint to endure years of weather abuse. The colors available are green, blue, orange, and magenta. Custom colors are available upon request for an additional $4. Please contact William with any questions you might have or any other custom orders.

Thank goodness for a good friend when you really need one! Chick and Whale was originally painted on unfinished wood, which gives it all kinds of fascinating texture.
